We are always delighted to find out how the fishing has been for our members and guests at Priory Farm.
Why not submit a catch report and tell us how, where, when and what you caught on our lakes. Your catch report will be displayed on this page and will help as a guide to what other anglers at Priory Lakes can expect to catch and what tactics and bait are working well.

wet / windy |
At last a night session on Hogtrough, which we knew would be difficult but we wanted a chance of bigger carp. Although we do appreciate the hectic fishing on Priory.
Me, Tom and Dave G again. Weather forecast was very bad with strong winds and rain, not cold. We arrived at 4 in the afternoon just managing to get the bivvi and umbrellas up before the first monsoon. Very windy and changed direction after we had set up blowing diagonally into our faces fishing swims 30 Dave G (guest), me 31 (member) and Tom (guest) in 32. We had a dry but very windy night. Tom and I both decided to get some sleep after dark, no action at all apart from a few wind bleeps and some scarred boilies.
We all heavily baited and were plagued by ducks, us hoping that they hadn't eaten all out bait. Tom fishing on the edge of the island with one rod and the other cast out to the snags to the left. I had one rod in the channel and the other on the edge of the island. Dave G was doing the same as me.
Dave G again did very well. I was woken by a bottle of liquid attractor rebounding off the roof of the bivvi at 3 in the morning. I staggered over to see Dave G unhooking a superb common of 18.5lb. That's three trips for Dave G and three pb's. Tom and I both blanked.
This has not put us off. I missed a very nice fish and we all felt very positive about giving this another go! Especially Dave G. Shame not more reports from Hogtrough

Back again, a night fish with Tom and Dave G. Dull and overcast but quite warm. Bite first cast before I managed to cast my other rod. Sport was very hectic with all three of us catching from swims 17,16 and 15. There was a lot of banter between Tom and I this trip. Yes and I won for a change. I ended the session with 17 carp - 15 commons, biggest 12lb and 2 crucian, the luncheon meat was bigger than the fish. Tom had 9 commons, biggest 9.5lb. Dave G had 7 commons. A great fish by Dave as he didn't start catching until early Saturday morning.
We had the entire weather system on Saturday, a very strange morning!
Have been persuaded to fish Hogtrough next, so lets see what we get, quietly confident!!!!

Hot / Muggy |
Just me today, Tom just back from a two day catfish hunt - another PB of 36.5lb.
Ouch and more salt ....
Arrived at 6.45am to day fish Priory. Very warm muggy morning, very still with mist rising off the lake. Not a breath of wind. A few all night anglers frying-up breakfast. It was too early to strike up a conversation.
Fished 17 again, like this swim, lots of lilies and a closed opposite bank. Lots of fish on the surface, no spawning, with carp nudging the lilly pads. Looks very promising, concerns over the bright sunshine predicted for that day. Nice to fish during the day for a change!
Small carp first cast. Gentle bites for the first two or three hours, not even enough to move the bobbin practically impossible to hit for someone with my reactions.
Beefed up my groundbait with some seafood additives. Softer mix, breaks down more easily. Immediately all bites turned to a gentle knock to full on screamers. Caught through out a very hot still day. The sport from 6pm onwards was crazy. Used just one rod for the last hour and went home happy and very tired at 8pm. Ended the day with 11 common carp, biggest 9lb. Great sport - must try and get through to the bigger ones next time. Nothing from the surface, did try!
I know this swim can be noisy, but most people will respect the anglers, and I quite like having an audience sometimes. The guy that runs the hut always speaks and is very helpful. |

I was a guest, first time fishing at Priory Farm and was impressed. Looking

I caught 6 carp in total: 5 commons 1 mirror. The order of catching was 7lb, 6lb, 9lb, 14lb, 8lb and a 7lb mirror and 5 roach. Also the member I was with caught a 2lb crucian.
|
I used feeder and ledger tactics. I caught the 7lb common on maggots (feeder) along
with all the roach. The rest I caught on ledger with the source boilies and pop up
corn together. I fished from peg 27 and 25 and cast to the bigger of the two
islands

Hot / Sunny |
Back again! Another night session with my son Tom and his mate Dave G as guests.
Arrived 17.00 and had a good look around the lake. Couldn't see any spawning,
either too cold, which is a big worry for me tonight, or all finished after two
weeks, I hope!!!!. Cold damp breeze from the Hogtrough end putting a chill in
the air. This could kill the feeding if we get a lot of heavy rain. Cold air and
cold water.
Had a good chat with a new member. We spoke about the lakes and I passed on all the info I could. We set up in swims 15 (Dave), 16 (Tom) and me in 17 again. I have a bad feeling about this! Its cold and it has started raining.
Bivvies up first as the weather forecast is pretty damp and cool. Tom caught first at around 9pm. He thought was a 6lb common turned out to tip the scales at 13.5lb. A PB for Tom on luncheon meat and a very nice fish. More salt in the old man's already very sore wounds from last time.
Shortly followed by Dave. A nice common of 9lb. The fish grew legs and sprinted from the mat to the water. Dave rolled up his sleeves and pulled the fish out after quite a wrestle. We all congratulated each other so much on Dave's recovery that we forgot to photograph the fish. Dave caught at regular intervals. Catching a total of 6 fish, all commons from 9 to 2lbs. Tom did not catch again until the next morning. A very strong 9lb common. WE all missed and lost other good fish.
By 3am I was going to move swims. Listening to their alarms and me having bleeping nothing again was beginning to make me paranoid about swim 17. I didn't and at 3.15 my very first bite a screaming run on luncheon meat. A nice 9lb common. Nothing for another two hours until I thought of hair rigging caster, which was in my ground bait anyway. How obvious was this to anyone but me! Then caught steadily the rest of the morning. 7 commons from 9 down to 7lb and a very pretty mirror of around 6lb. All the next seven fish took caster.
That's 15 fish between us! I know I was wrong about the fishing but the actual weather was very strange. Warm but damp sometimes and cool for short periods. We were sheltered from the main breeze. But it was not as cold as forecast. A good hard session but this lake has a lot more to offer. Next time maybe when its warmer?????!!!!!!

First visit to the fishery as a new member from Caterham. Weather conditions were very sunny and hot during the day with top temperatures reaching 23C.
|
3 Tench up to 4lbs, 1 common carp weighing 10lb 4oz, 3 Roach - not weighed 1 Mirror Carp weighed on 2 sets of scales at 25lb 6oz! A personal best for Carp and all on my first session as a new member!
|
Very simple ledger tactics used with hand tied sinking braid hook links - 6'' in length. Size 12 and 14 hooks with tight hairs to 16mm white chocolate boilies.
Bait runners were set for sensitive shy bites as the hot weather made things rather difficult. Owing to fishing on a 48hr session, I baited up particular marginal areas with Hemp based ground bate and small PVA bags of Halibut pellets and white chocolate boilies. This combination allowed for Tench, Bream and Roach to be caught as well as the target species - Carp!!

Day started off quite badly. An older guy set up 2 swims down from us and cast at least 30-50 times trying to catch our lines on purpose. We just laughed at how sad he was. It was my 4th visit to the Priory lake and I knew it wasn't fishing too well so I wasn't expecting anything. Then my rod had a screaming run so I let my friend have it because he'd never been before. Turns out he had a nice 9lb common as his first ever carp :)

I'm a 'bit of cork and bent pin' type of fisherman. I don't understand technical stuff. Poles and rigs and boilies are a mystery to me. I have very little skill or, as I prefer to put it, very little luck. This year, for the first time, I've been fishing Hogtrough. With very little luck. But yesterday evening, I had the lake to myself and it was one of those rare (for me) occasions when the fish are biting and it all seems very easy. The best fish was perhaps not huge, but it was certainly heavier than anything I have taken out of the nearby Priory lake. I was float fishing in the margins in the early evening and had missed a couple (as usual). Maybe third time lucky, I thought, smiling grimly. But so it turned out. The fish pulled off about forty metres of line on the first run. When it decided to come in, I realised my small landing net would be a problem. Several times, it rolled away, but eventually, it took pity on me. At the moment, I feel like I've got Hogtrough sussed, but deep down I know that with my luck (see above) I'll most likely catch nothing at all.

This water provides so much great sport! Fished from 3pm to dusk. The weather was overcast and warm. The light seemed very strange all evening, may be something to do with the longest day. Bites, bites and more bites. I wasted so much time chasing fish on the surface leaving only one rod on method. Hooked two on the surface but lost them both very quickly. The fish spat the surface bait out so many times that you had to be very quick or very patient. I was very patient with no reward! Again a cracking session. My son Tom is trying to persuade me to try Hogtrough again. Don't know, need some bigger ones from Priory first. Shame no reports from Hogtrough.

warm, still |
What a fantastic night session. Fished from 6pm to 4.30 the next afternoon. Very lucky with the weather: dry, warm and still. Should have been heavy showers with a cool northeast wind. I had 19 common carp and one crucian, Tom had 2 carp and a roach. I didn't sleep the action was so fast and furious, missing at least 10 runs and one fish where the hook pulled out. Bites did not start until about 9 that evening, sport started about 1am and were still biting when we left at 4 on Saturday afternoon. I ran out of feeder mix and loose feed mix at 9am. A fantastic session.
Tom was very unlucky losing two nice carp that night and not catching until late the next morning. The carp were on the surface every where in the afternoon and taking dog biscuit and floating crust. They seem to love the sunshine. Must try to single out the bigger ones next time, all the same Tom and I both agree what a quality session with fantastic sport!!

warm |
A warm evening, over cast and quite still. Tom fished from 3pm to dusk. I joined him at around 7pm and fished to dusk. Unfortunately Tom caught both fish before I arrived with the camera. I had great fun surface fishing with floating crust and although I didn't catch I missed several sitters. Very exciting way of fishing watching some very nice carp, didn't catch, which was my fault!!! May be too used to the bite alarm!!!! Night fishing on Priory on Friday with Tom. If the weather holds it should be a very interesting cession. Watch this space!!!!!

My son Tom caught two mirror carp, 8lb and 9lb |
Both fish on ledgered sweet corn soaked in pineapple. Tom is fishing very well
at the moment, may even give his old man some competition.

wet, windy |
Only me this time, rest away for the bank holiday. Night fished from 8pm. The weather from 2am (my last fish) was very windy with torrential rain. I was very thankful that I had a very good bivvy. Up to that point it was very good fishing. Packed up and was blown home at 7am, very, very wet. There were two other very brave souls still fishing and catching!!!!

The crew fished again, my son Tom, Mat Ross Harper (tench and Roach)and David Geleit (guest). The night was very ,very cold with a very sunny warm next day. We fished pegs 17 (me) and the rest at 21 to 23 all night from 7pm to 7pm the next day. Fishing for Carp tried everything. It wasn't until 15 hours later we heard from some of the longer serving members that the Carp are caught at the other end. Makes perfect sense as the car park and quad bike tracks are very close. Thanks guys! I did talk to a young guy on late Saturday morning who caught a carp to 12lbs and had several others. He said he thought he and his mate were just in the right place at the right time. I believe they were fishing pegs 9 & 10 on Hogtrough.

Caught a fish nice Bream to 6lbs. The photo is too poor to send as I was shaking with shock that I actually caught a fish!

sunny / warm |
Caught from pegs 33 to 35, from the edge of the island, very few takes all day. Carp at 11am and Tench and Bream at 6pm to 7.30pm. Bream caught by my son Tom, and the Tench caught by Mat Ross-Harper both members. Guest David Geleit caught the Carp. Unfortunately for David the camera hadn't arrived.
Sunny and warm with a light breeze from behind the swims. Some activity on the surface close but not feeding. Quite a few surface bubbles halfway to the island but no takers. A very pleasant day although fishing difficult. Saw many small roach caught from the opposite bank. No fish again for the old man.
|
Not large, but a very nicely conditioned bream.
|
All the fish caught on the method, with a hair rigged Halibut pellet. The Carp was
4lbs, small, but again great condition and good sport. |
